Two doubles partners waiting at the kitchen line, seen low through the net

Block vs Push: The Two Forehand Resets Every Pickleball Player Needs

Not every reset is the same shot. Ava splits forehand defense into a block reset for hard, fast balls and a push reset for slower or below-the-net balls. Matching the reset to the ball you get makes getting back to the kitchen much easier.

  • Fast ball: paddle out in front, soften the grip, almost no swing — absorb pace.
  • Slower / dropping ball: paddle underneath, gently push and lift into the kitchen.
  • Stop using one swing for every reset; choose block vs push based on pace and height.
